  • Walk on the public roads as long as you want or in the places recommended for walking and jogging.
  • Hire a bicycle and ride around the towns and villages.

  • Beach dresses are meant for beaches and are not good for to do shopping with them on.
  • Don't have Buddha's images tattooed on your body.
  • Bags, caps, towels and dresses with Buddha's images may put you in trouble with the authorities.
  • When visiting Temples or Shrines, do dress like as going to church for Sunday mass.(Fully covered dress
  • It is not allowed to enter Temples or Shrines with your footwear. Leave them at the place made for them.
  • Don't take photos of Buddha in inappropriate manner. (Don't pose in front of it to take photo)
  • Following things are prohibited by law.
  • Smoking in the public, using mobile phone while driving or walking. Using mobile phone next to the train track or on it is against the law. Dinking in the public. Using polythene bags and sheets.
  • Use pedestrian crossing only to cross the road. Obey to the signal lights if there are any.
  • Always keep your tickets of the train and busses till you finish the journey. It is an offence to travel without valid ticket.
  • Don't speak with those people who are following you. Not all but most of these followers are tricky people.
  • Never accept drinks or food from unknown passengers when you are travelling in long distance bus or train.
  • Whenever purchasing any tickets do it yourself. Or stay next to the person who is buying it for you.
  • Three wheels is the popular and faster transport mode in towns. First check whether the person is having a functioning meter.
  • Change money with approved money changers only. Excess rupees? Convert them in to foreign currencies at the Colombo airport.
