Bicycle rental service in Sri Lanka can be found through individual people or through companies all over the country. Local people used to call bicycles as push bike after the mass introduction of motorcycles in the island. Still people in the villages use these bicycles for their routine travelling as there is less traffic in the streets. There is no limit for the visiting foreigners to use cycling to venture around the places where they are staying. Important thing, you must follow the country's road rules. Specially when riding in the night time you must have lights on the bicycle along with reflectors to warn the other drivers.
Many companies in Colombo use to provide bicycles for the tourists at daily rental basis. There is lot of bicycle models available for you to select from. Standard bicycles, mountain, racing, Backpack carrier, ladies, and children bicycles too are available from the rental shops. Special bicycles are available for those riders who want to tour Sri Lanka on wheels. They are fitted with specially made bag carriers that can hold bags. If you are planning to go on hills area, then look for a bicycle with gears fitted in the rear wheel.

In some parks like Bellanvila in Colombo you can find places that are renting bicycles on hourly rate. You can get one of it and ride along the pond's specially built cycling track. One round will show you that you had passed nearly 2.5 Km distance. This is good for those who want to take cycling as exercise to keep their fitness. Also there used to be road cycling races used to take place here during the Sinhala and Tamil New year celebration period. Itr will be conducted as racing cycle and standard cycling events. These events are conducted for men, women and children. If foreigners want to participate in in these cycling events, they must get permission from the Government Departments.
Motorcycles are available for rental in Sri Lanka for the visiting tourists. They must have good experience in driving a motorcycle and must have their own country rider license.
