Batticaloa Airport is now serving to the local and foreign passengers from the Eastern part of Sri Lanka. This airport is re-developed as a domestic airport and it is not an International airport. During the civil war the airport sustained damages. Two years later, Sri Lanka President has ceremonially opened the renovated Batticaloa domestic airport and its runway. Batticaloa is located in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka. Passengers can fly from Colombo to Batticaloa for the ticket price of Rs 10,500/- for one way travel.

Note: In this year 2024, Batticaloa Airport has been closed from functioning. In this year 2024 or in the coming year 2025 the Airport is expected to commence its services back to normal. In the meantime, Colombo International , Ratmalana International, Jaffna International, and Mattala International Airports are operating as usual. Visitors to Sri Lanka can use private planes , sea planes and Helicopters to fly to Batticaloa Airport,

Places to Visit in Batticaloa.

Batticalo in the Eastern Province  is called as Land of Singing Fish. On a clear full moon day night in the month of April to September, people say you can hear singing fish sounds. Kallady Lagoon, Singing Fish, Kallady Bridge, Kalkudha Beach, Dutch Fort, Light house and the local Handicraft Centre.

Flights From Colombo to Jaffna Airport.

Jaffna airport is now handiling flights between Indian City Chennai. This airport was recently renovated to handle large airplanes with the assistance of Indian Government. It is a regional International airport that can handle flights from India and between Sri Lanka. So if you are visiting Sri Lanka in the near future check with your travel agents to find if there are any flights for you from Jaffna to and from Chennai as it will be a cheaper flight. Jaffna is connected with Colombo by many Express A/C trains, A/C express busses and through local flights. There is lot of hotels available in Jaffna where one of it is 4 star hotels. 3 flights are operating every week from Colombo to Jaffna and vice versa. One way ticket price. The same flight will return to Colombo after some hours of interval. Actually it is operating from Ratmalana to Jaffna (Palaly) Airport. One 70 seat plane is operating within these cities. From BIA to Ratmalana you must get Helicopter or vehicle transport to reach Ratmalana Airport.

Recently Mattala Airport is ceremonially re-opened for International travelling and cargo operations. Due to Corona Virus Infection all the Airports in Sri Lanka are closed and limited movements of passengers is available in the Colombo Airport only.

Ratmalana International Airport.

Recently Ratmalana International Airport has been closed due to non operations.Earlier, after opening the Ratmalana International Airport, flights from Maldives landed here. Due to less passengers to the Maldives, they had stopped flight service to Sri Lanka. So the Ratmalana Airport in this year 2024, is non operational for the International flights.
